I can get by in Spanish, but I dunno what this speaking Mexican is.

The Spanish language originated in Spain. Case in point look at the philipines. Filipinos are the mexicans of the asian world. They're language is a mixture of english, spanish and what used to be the native language (watch a filipino tv show, you'll see how much they switch). The aztecs spoke their own language and when Cortez came and Buttsecksed the whole continent (as he knew it) the people started to mix the language in. Spain also settled on the small islands like PR and Dominican Republic. Hence the similar language but vastly different dialects.

As for PRs, they are annoying as fuck (in my experience). They are just as arrogant and condescending towards Mexicans as Salvadorians. I asked a PR chick who was getting uppity about Mexicans: "If Puerto Ricans are so great, why does the US pretty much OWN your country?" She couldn't answer. She didn't know.

For your info, Puerto Rico is trying to break ties with the United States and become its own independent nation. Second Ex-pro, most of them do speak Spanish, with the exception of a few who were born here and do not have ne old school Puerto Rican parents and family who smack you and go "aprende espanol, estupido," while they hit u with ne thing they can find or make u kneel on dry, uncooked rice (incredibly painful). Simply put every country that shares relationships but are not the same have another country they consider to be beneath them. For example Puerto Ricans and Dominicans hate each other (mostly the old skool ones) Most Spanish speaking countries don't like being referred to as beaners simply because they find Mexico to be beneath the rest.

Oh please I know how well you speak spanish. All I am saying is that if you ever went to Spain you would be just as lost as me.

Even the neighborhood elementary schoolers know "a little spanish". Everyone knows "a little" Spanish. I think the point was people assume you know more.
